Doctor of Education program:

Graduate study in Adult Learning and Technology at the University of Wyoming aims to provide a balance between theory and practice. Attention is directed toward the union of learning that is required by circumstances (requisites) and learning that enriches life.

This nationally recognized graduate program in adult learning and technology offers courses of study which prepare individuals to work in diverse areas with adult learners.

The Ed.D. (the terminal professional degree in education) is designed for students who desire to improve their professional practice as educators. The Ed.D. requires a minimum of 72 semester hours beyond the bachelor's degree, of which 36 hours must be taken in the student's chosen field. Candidates, may, with the approval of the faculty, transfer up to 30 semester hours from previous course work.

The Ed.D. degree is intended to permit the student to affiliate with a particular program unit, take a concentration of offerings in that unit, and complete a core program which includes course work from other units in the College of Education. The programs involve depth in an area of concentration, scholarship, and advanced research/problem-solving skills.

The Ed.D. is designed for the student who intends to work in an adult education setting as an administator, instructional leader, director, dean or other adult learning practitioner. The research emphasis would lean towards the interpretation, integration, and use of existing research. Both doctoral degrees require the same research and statistics expectations, with the student's professional goals determining which degree is the most appropriate.

The Ed.D. require a minimum of 72 semester hours beyond the Bachelor's degree. All course work and degree requirements are approved by the student's graduate committee. The writing of a dissertation is required and must be completed within four years from the successful completion of a comprehensive examination.
