History

The graduate program in adult education at the University of Wyoming was the first of its kind in the Rocky Mountain Region and today enjoys increasing recognition for its contributions in the areas of adult learning and teaching, literacy, and philosophical bases of the profession. Organized in 1950, the program initially was operated jointly by the College of Education and the Division of Community Services, headed by Clarence D. Jayne. Since that time, more than 250 individuals have received graduate degrees in the area of adult education or instructional technology. Currently, students may pursue a Master's degree or Doctoral degrees (Ed.D.; Ph.D.,) in Education with a specialization in adult and post-secondary education or instructional technology.
