Mary Lou Heink, EXP '66

Mary Lou (Schott) Heink is a Wyoming native who was born in Laramie and spent her early days in the Centennial Valley where her dad was a rancher. Her family moved to Cheyenne in 1953 and she graduated from Cheyenne Central High School in 1962. She entered UW that fall, majoring in Education until she married her husband Bill in 1963 and he whisked her of to a life in the Aerospace world in Florida.
She and her family have lived on Merritt Island, Florida for 50 years. She and Bill have three children, nine grandchildren, and hosted 7 European Exchange Students for a year apiece in the 1980’s. They are all a major part of her family, and visits in both directions are common. In addition to those seven “children”, she counts their fifteen children as her European “grandchildren”.A lifetime volunteer, she has been involved in everything from Hospital Auxiliary’s to PTA, to many roles in both Girl and Boy Scouting. She was awarded the Boy Scout Silver Beaver Award in 1984. Mary Lou has been a member of the UW Art Museum Advisory Board, and she and Bill contribute to the university as a life members of the UWAA, patron contributors to the UWAA Scholarship Club, and sponsor the Bill and Mary Lou Heink Engineering Scholarship.
