Indian Rocks Ranch Internship
Dates: May-August of 2013 (specific dates and hours will be discussed)
Ranch Description: Small commercial cow-calf operation on a historic ranch at the head of South Spring Creek 13 miles SW of Saratoga, WY. Saratoga is just under a 30 minute drive. Laramie is 1.5-2 hours depending on which route you take.
Ranching Philosophy: Owners and managers are extremely conservation-minded. We are attentive to range condition, wildlife habitat, and sustainable cattle numbers. We use antique haying equipment and horses and dogs to work cattle. Low-stress cattle handling is critical for the animals and for us as well.
Intern Description: Good communication and sense of responsibility are important. An interest in good land stewardship, ranch management, and a willingness to discuss your views will be appreciated. No previous ranching experience is required, however, we expect an interest in ranching and a good attitude.
Learning Opportunities: Feeding pairs, branding, monitoring calf health, treating sick calves, using antique equipment for meadow care and haying, irrigation, moving cows, range monitoring, fencing, building maintenance, learning about financial decision making, wildlife habitat creation, land conservation, building and corral maintenance, basic mechanic work, potential for fencing and care of yearlings.
Compensation: May include: rustic housing, Wi-Fi, some meals, space for a horse, stipend.
