"We Help Our Own" 

The Wheel of Brands Scholarship provides undergraduate scholarships for animal and veterinary science (ANVS) students at the University of Wyoming. The escalating cost of higher education continues to make it more difficult for many students to attend college, and scholarships have not kept pace with the increased cost of education. In order to assure that we draw the very best students possible into ANVS, it is important that we continue to increase financial assistance. This scholarship is an opportunity for the livestock industry to invest in tomorrow by helping its future leaders obtain the education necessary to succeed in the increasingly technologically complex agricultural industries. These funds provide for 6-10 scholarships each year for students of high academic and leadership abilities. 

In addition, the funds provide an opportunity to honor the livestock industry of Wyoming and the West with an attractive and highly visible display of brands. The Animal Science/Molecular Science Building at the University of Wyoming hosts a large variety of functions throughout the year. The foyer of this building is a spacious area used for activities such as receptions and luncheons, and its north wall provides a highly visible display area. The center of the display is a large wagon wheel.

Currently, donations of $1,000 or more will be recognized by placing the donor’s brand on the leather hides between the spokes of the wheel and within the recently added gate frame. Donations of $500 to $999 will be recognized by placing the donor’s brand on a 9 x 13-inch wooden plaque. These plaques will be displayed on each side and below the wheel. Contributors who do not have a brand will be recognized by displaying their names or the names of their business, including their business logo. Donations of less than $500 will be listed as a contributor toward the display of the University of Wyoming’s Brand of Excellence Scholarships. There will also be a directory developed with a brief history and description of the ranch, business, or individual contributor to this project.

Beginning in 2013, the contribution for a donor’s brand will be raised to $2,000, it will be $1,000 – $1,999 for a wooden plaque, and donations of less than $1,000 will be listed as contributors.

Donors may pay the entire contribution at one time or in two equal installments. All donations are tax deductible.

Opportunities to support Animal Science students, in addition to contributions to the Animal Science Foundation account, exist through gifts to existing scholarship funds including:

• Wheel of Brands - a minimum gift of $1,000 will allow a donor to affix their brand to a piece of leather to be mounted on the within the Wheel of Brands framework. A donation of $500 will qualify for brand to be applied on a board mounted on adjacent wall.
