Meat Judging Program

The University of Wyoming looks forward to having a newly revitalized Meat Judging Program for the 2018 season!


Team Members:

There are 16 competitive and highly capable students currently enrolled in the Introduction to Meat Judging course. Students enrolled in this course who meet all other requirements will have the opportunity to join the 2018 UW Meat Judging Team. Stay tuned this December for updates on who will be joining the senior team.

Program Highlights and Updates:

It has been two years since the University of Wyoming has been represented in collegiate competition by a senior meat judging team. During the 2015 season, UW was proud to be the Reserve National Champions at the International competition. The 2015 team posted the fifth highest team score in Wyoming history.

Under new direction of Ohio native, Sierra Jepsen, The University of Wyoming is excited to be back in the meat cooler and ready to compete! The 2018 team will begin their season this January at the National Western Stockshow in Denver, Colorado.

  • Southwestern Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest – Fort Worth, TX
    January 28th, 2018
  • Iowa State Meat Judging Contest – Ames, IA
    February 10th, 2018
  • Houston Stock Show and Rodeo – Houston, TX
    March 3rd, 2018

Ready to Get Started!

How to get involved:
Sign up for Introduction to Meat Judging FDSC 3545, offered during fall semester.

How to become a competitive team member:
After successful completion of the introductory class, you are eligible to be selected for the traveling team and begin competing that January. A full judging season will run from January to November of a given year.

Student Eligibility:
A student must maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA and have been enrolled at UW for at least one semester. No past experience is required. Students from a wide variety of academic study are welcome and encouraged to enroll in the Introduction to Meat Judging class and take the first steps to getting involved with the UW Meat Judging Team.
