About UW

UW Pride traces is roots back to 1886, when the university was established by the territorial legislature four years before Wyoming became a state.

A land-grant university, the University of Wyoming has since grown into a nationally recognized research institution which includes accomplished faculty and world-class facilities on a picturesque campus. UW  provides a unique learning environment with more than 200 areas of study, 250 student organizations and one of the nation’s most extensive study abroad programs. UW’s 13,929 students hail from all 50 states and 94 countries.

UW offers academic programs through seven colleges and multiple interdisciplinary institutes and schools. With a small student/faculty ratio of 14:1, UW is a community of scholars and learners committed to excellence. UW’s academic programs of distinction are focused in six broad areas: science and technology, the arts and humanities, environment and natural resources, life sciences, and professions critical to the state and region.

“My parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and many cousins went to or are going to UW."

The Origin of Brown and Gold

Brown-eyed susans
Brown-eyed susans are the inspiration for UW's official colors. The golden yellow and brown flowers are a popular choice for gardens displaying UW Pride.

UW Pride Impacts Wyoming

UW Pride is more than wearing brown and gold. It's a symbol of the relationship between communities and UW that enhances the state.
