The Alpine Archaeology Fund promotes the study of prehistoric life at high altitudes, largely in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho.  Research to date focuses on the large, late prehistoric villages that lie at about 10,500 feet above sea level, and may be associated with bighorn sheep hunting and the gathering of whitebark pine nuts.  Additional research examines the archaeology associated with melting ice patches between 11,000 and 12,000 feet above sea level.
