The Posse Cub at the University of Wyoming offers a number of incredible opportunities to cadets in both Army and Air Force ROTC programs as well as any enrolled student. The club has two separate functions. The first function is to serve as a volunteer force for Albany County Sheriff’s Office. Our primary job for them is to aid on Search and Rescue missions that are all too common in a state that offers this many opportunities to the outdoorsman. We also exist to aid in other community events, this include something as simple as a parade or as extraordinary as flooding or other disaster relief. Through this function we are able to incorporate many exciting training activities ranging from high ropes training to disaster medical to training with the Sheriff’s office on their snowmobiles and snowcats.
The second function of the Posse Club is where the members get to enjoy the efforts they put into the community in the form of shooting events. Any member of Posse has access to the indoor range just South of I80 in Laramie as well as access to the clubs own match grade .22 rifles and air rifles. Roy Kern, the owner of the range, has also cheerfully volunteered his expertise to Posse members looking to hone their abilities in any or all of the three match positions. We are also looking to begin incorporating some military oriented firearms training in the form of shooting drills and eventually room clearing drills as an added bonus to club members.
