Cowboy Battalion competes in 25th annual Army Ten-Miler

WASHINGTON, D.C., Sunday Oct. 4, 2009 – A team of Army ROTC Cadets from The University of Wyoming's Cowboy Battalion competed today in the 25th annual Army Ten-Miler.

The Cowboy Battalion placed 113th overall and 19th among 56 ROTC teams from about 50 schools.

Team members from the Cowboy Battalion included senior Jeffery Dannemiller; juniors Christopher Kaiser and Abner Gonzalez; and sophomores Zachary Goldman, Austin Laffitte, Luke Meyer and Michael Wardle.

"It was a unique experience to run through all of the monuments in downtown D.C.," said Cadet Wardle.

The race starts and ends at the Pentagon. The course crosses the Potomac River and runs along the national mall to loop around the U.S. Capitol building, forming a 10-mile circuit.

A record field of about 30,000 competitors ran this year's race. The Army Ten-Miler is among the largest races in the country. The event attracts runners from around the world. This year's race featured competitors from as far away as Brazil, Japan and Korea.

The race is held every year in the nation's capital in conjunction with the Association of the United States Army national convention.
