Coast to Coast by Post: An Exploration in Sculpture was curated by Associate Professor of Art, Ashley Hope Carlisle and Art Department Instructional Technician David Jones and featured 43 nationally recognized artists. Because of the many challenges and costs associated with shipping and transporting large sculptural pieces, the participants were asked to create a piece that would travel well within a U.S. Postal Service flat rate box. The piece could span larger once removed from the box and assembled, and it could be made from any material of the artist’s choosing.
The resulting exhibition presented an amazing variety of perspectives, materials, and conversations that capture how truly diverse contemporary art is today. From somber to hilarious, quietly contemplative to brutally honest, we have been proud to share these stories.
