Fifteen metalsmiths and fifteen printmakers from across the U.S. were invited to participate in "metal inkorporated". In the metalsmith/printmaker pairs, each artist was asked to etch a 6" x 12", 18 gram sheet of copper and then trade plates. Artists then responded to the plate they received; many metalsmiths cut into and fabricated the plates into sculptural forms, often adding other materials, while the printmakers often used their new plate as a layer in a print or added to or reworked the plate before printing it.
Curated by Leah Hardy, Associate Professor of Art, the results pushed into new conceptual, technical of formal territory. The works can be seen in the catalog produced for the exhbition. If you are interested in purchasing a catalog, please contact Leah Hardy.
