Frequently Asked Questions

tours

We are planning to be in Laramie to visit the University. Can we schedule a visit to the Art Museum? How much time should we allocate?
We work with each group individually, and will tailor the experience to your needs. Everything begins with the artwork on exhibit. We will view the artwork, engage in discussions, and if time permits, go into the studio to create new artwork based on the art observed, ideas explored and conversations we have had in the galleries. We recommend at least 45 minutes for a tour, and an additional 45 minutes for a studio activity. Click Here to schedule a visit.

Who can schedule an educational tour/activity at the museum? Is there a fee for museum tours and activities?
Anyone can schedule an educational experience and the museum. We work with Preschool-12 school groups, community groups, college/university, and the general public. There is no charge for a one-time museum tour. Click Here to schedule a visit.

I'd like to bring my class to the Art Museum for a self-guided tour. Can we just come, or do we need to schedule our visit?

Please schedule your self-guided tour. An education team member or volunteer may be available to greet you and answer questions. The museum is a busy place and it is helpful to know what groups may be visiting. It will also help you to know what other concurrent events with be occurring during your visit. Click Here to schedule a visit.

What does a visit entail? How long should we plan on being at the museum?

If time permits, go into the studio to create new artwork based on the art observed, ideas explored and conversations we have had in the galleries. We have also scheduled 1/2-day and full-day sessions with schools, which allows for in-depth inquiry and creative time.

We only have 45 minutes for a visit? What can we do in that time frame?
We work with each group individually, and will tailor the experience to your needs. Everything begins with the artwork on exhibit. We will view the artwork, question and discuss the artistic processes and contexts addressed by the artists.

How can we prepare our students for the visit?

We relish planning with teachers to meet their needs, including pre and post visit activities. Contact the Curator of Education, Katie Christensen, 307-766-3496 or Master Teacher, Heather Bender, 307-766-3515.

How many chaperones should we bring?

We prefer to keep a low student/adult ratio (10/1) when possible. We will work with you to address your needs.

My history students are studying the American West. Do you have any artwork that fits that subject?
Check our exhibitions page to see what exhibits are on display in the galleries. Then talk with a member of the education team. With advance notice, we can explore options for viewing pieces from our collection that are not currently on display.
