The University of Wyoming Art Museum presents and collects world-class art, furthers programs that engage students and visitors in discussions that broaden an understanding of diverse perspectives, viewpoints, and cultures, and advances service to the state.
Through its Museum as Classroom approach, the University of Wyoming Art Museum places art at the center of learning for all ages, supports the academic mission of the University, assists in preparing our future workforce with essential skills, and enhances the cultural life of Wyoming’s citizens and visitors.
Here is what one of our students in the Honors Class said about her experience in this class, which is taught at the Art Museum by our Curator of Education and uses original art for primary research:
At the beginning of the semester, I was unsure how I was going to do in this class as I had never viewed art as one of my fortes. Although I never fully relinquished that anxiety I felt about art, I found that with each studio project I felt the challenge yet I was still able to produce something I never thought I could. This class has definitely made me realize the importance of art within the classroom, not only are students able to better comprehend information but they are also able to create and form their own opinions.
Studies continue to confirm the importance of the arts in learning. Skills such as thinking creatively, problem solving, persevering in perfecting skills, staying focused, and receiving constructive feedback help in preparing students of all ages for a productive and positive contribution to whatever pursuits they have in the future. The Art Museum’s programs are essential to advancing learning in our youngest students, preparing our future workforce and leaders, and enlivening the cultural experience in Wyoming.
