In 2011, the University of Wyoming Art Museum partnered with the Laramie Main Street Alliance in an effort to bring public art into historic downtown Laramie. Working with local artists and businesses, three murals were realized: Talal Cockar, Tierra y Libertad, First Street between University and Ivinson Streets; Meghan Meier, Grainery Grove, former Whole Earth Grainery alleyway north of Ivinson Street; and Travis Ivey, Hollyhock Haven, public parking lot between First and Second Streets.
In 2012, the first of as many as four murals are complete. Meghan Meier's Escape is located on the corner of Garfield and First Streets.
The Laramie Mural Project is funded in part by the Guthrie Family Foundation, Laramie Beautification Committee, City of Laramie, and the Wyoming Arts Council.
Sculpture: A Wyoming Invitational originated in 2008 as a temporary outdoor exhibition in response to the University of Wyoming Art Museum’s extended closure for renovations and to the increasing interest on campus and in our community for public art. Originally, seventeen sculptures by sixteen artists were on view. By special invitation, the artists of Ark Regional Services created an outdoor work for the Creative Arts Center.
Today, several of the original works and one new work remain on view:
