After
Wyoming’s long winter, it is worth celebrating the longest day of the
year and the official beginning of summer. Every year on the summer
solstice a solar tube in the ceiling illuminates a silver dollar in the
center of the Rotunda Gallery at exactly noon. Join us for this fun
event and to view the sun through astronomer Ray Martin’s filtered solar
telescope, which will be set up on the terrace.
Visiting artists and other experts give Art Talks and Gallery Walk Throughs throughout the year. Both are free to the public. For upcoming dates and times check the Upcoming Events calendar.
The Art Museum periodically offers intensive cross-disciplinary symposia inspired by a museum exhibition. The symposia explore issues critical to our community, state and region. Previous symposia have included, The Red Desert Symposium and Public Art and Community: Inspiration and Reflection.
This year's symposium, Never Drink Downstream: Factual
Tales and Artful Musing on Wyoming Water, will be held Friday, November 9
and Saturday, November 10, 2012 in the Family Room of the UW Union from 9 am –
5 pm each day. Find out more about this year's symposium here.
The first Thursday of December the Art Museum celebrates the Tree Lighting Ceremony. The community is invited to experience the beauty of the holidays by previewing decorated trees displayed in the museum galleries. Visitors may place advance bids as they enjoy an evening of music, refreshments and holiday lights. The auction continues Friday and concludes Saturday.
The first Saturday in December the Art Museum presents a celebration of the arts featuring a day of musical performances by community groups, including a grand finale by the Laramie Community Band. Enjoy the annual exhibition of artwork by Albany County students, art-making activities in the Shelton Studio, refreshments, balloon animals and a visit from Santa Claus.
