Lisa Kinney -- 1997 Outstanding Alumna

Bachelor of Arts -- 1973 -- Spanish

   After graduating with a B.A. in.Spanish from UW in 1973, Lisa Kinney has shown her strong commitment to the liberal arts and sciences. Continuing her education, she received a master’s of library science from the University of Oregon and returned to Laramie, where, in 1977, she became director of the Albany County Library. As director, she pulled the community together to raise funds for and build a state-of-the-art county library, which opened in 1981. Returning to school, Ms. Kinney received a J.D. from UW’s College of Law in 1986. While in law school, she was elected a Wyoming state senator. 
   Kinney served in the legislature for 10 years while maintaining her own law practice. She was a tireless legislator who earned the respect of her colleagues on both:sides of the aisle. She was Minority Leader from 1992-94 and wrote a book on lobbying for libraries. Today, Ms. Kinney is a full-time practicing attorney and shareholder in the Laramie law firm of Carthell and King, P.C.
