Paul R. Yedinak* -- 1997 Outstanding Alumnus
Bachelor of Science - 1943 - Zoology and Physiology
Dr. Yedinak began his education at UW, where he was one of Dr. L. Floyd Clarke’s outstanding students. He graduated with a B.S. in l942 and, in 1945, earned an M.D. from Marquette University in Wisconsin. Dr. Yedinak was president of the Sweetwater County Medical Society and the Wyoming State Medical Society. In 1974, he was honored with the state’s prestigious H.R. Robbins Award as Doctor of the Year.
Despite a demanding practice, Dr. Yedinak was always involved in the public affairs of his community, including eight years on the local school board, with a stint as chairman, and also as a member of the county sheriff s Mounted Posse. He was instrumental in facilitating the use of physician assistants to aid Wyoming. physicians facing excessive demands. Since retiring in 1983, he has volunteered with the Indian Health Service in Utah and Arizona.
In the early 1970s, in the exploding population of southwestern Wyoming, Dr. Yedinak was the primary trauma surgeon on the staff of the Sweetwater Memorial Hospital in Rock Springs. He dealt with the many traumas and illnesses associated with the vigorous people producing coal, oil, gas and livestock.
