Mary B. Guthrie -- 1998 Outstanding Alumna

Bachelor of Arts - 1977 - English

The tradition of a liberal arts education is strong in the family of Mary B. Guthrie. Her parents and siblings are graduates of the UW College of Arts and Sciences. In 1963, Guthrie received a B.A. in English, with a minor in French; in 1977, she received a J.D. from the College of Law. She clerked for the Honorable James E. Barrett of the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals and worked for the Wyoming Attorney General’s office, where she successfully represented the state in the U.S. Supreme Court. Although she is busy as the first woman city attorney for Cheyenne, she has been heavily involved in civic and charitable organizations, including Goodwill, Rotary, United Way, League of Women Voters, Laramie County Community College Foundation Board, and the Cheyenne Civic Concert Band.
