Elizabeth Horsch -- 2000 Outstanding Alumna
Master of Science -- 1972 -- Natural Science
Student success is the greatest tribute a teacher can receive, and Elizabeth Horsch has earned that tribute. After receiving a B.S. in chemistry from Texas Tech University, she came to UW and graduated with an M.S. in natural science in 1972. She taught chemistry and environmental science at Kelly Walsh High School in Casper for 28 years. Many of her former students have gone on to earn Ph.D.s in the sciences, as well as other advanced degrees. Professor Ron Canterna, Department of Physics and Astronomy, remarked that UW’s best prepared science students came from Ms. Horsch’s classroom. “These students had a unique insight into the fundamental physical science principles that generally were lost in other ‘best’ students,” he said. Horsch has received numerous state and national awards, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching.
