Fred Homer* - 2010 - Outstanding Former Faculty
Political Science Department
Fred Homer has been described by many as a special teacher who was extremely devoted to his work and students.
Before entering college, Homer served as first lieutenant in the United States Army. Homer attended Rutgers University where he received an A.B. in economics, and, in 1970, he received a Ph.D. in political science at Indiana University. Homer taught at Purdue University until 1974 when he came to the University of Wyoming. Homer is noted for establishing the Administration of Justice Program in the Department of Political Science. Later, the Administration of Justice Program became the Department of Criminal Justice.
From 1976 to 1987, Homer served as head of the Departments of Political Science and Journalism and Telecommunications.
In 2000, Homer was elected to the Laramie City Council. Homer suffered from heart failure and died at the age of 66.
