Thomas McKenna - Outstanding Alumnus - 2010

Bachelor of Arts - 1963 - Mathematics

     Thomas W. McKenna, a Torrington native, grew up on his family’s farm. With his first-class work ethic, McKenna paid for his entire education at the University of Wyoming. 
     Shortly after receiving his bachelor’s degree, McKenna underwent Basic Training from the U.S. Air Force Reserve. After completing these requirements he returned to Laramie, where he enrolled in the Department of Statistics master’s program.  
     After graduating, McKenna went on to work for Westat, Inc., which provides contract research services to the U.S. federal, state, and local governments, foundations, and private industry clients. Now serving as executive vice president, McKenna has been with Westat for more than 43 years. McKenna also has served on Westat’s Institutional Review Board for nearly 25 years.  
     McKenna and his wife, Sherri, currently live in Rockville, Maryland. They have three children and nine grandchildren, all living in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
