Access and Use Outlook Web App

Introduction

The University of Wyoming (UW) provides Outlook Web App (OWA) to all UW faculty, staff, and students to access their UW email via the Internet. Through OWA, faculty, staff, and students can access their UW email from anywhere in the world as long as they are connected to the Internet and have access to a Web browser. OWA does not require any pre-configuration to be able to connect to a UW email account.

NOTE: All features of OWA may be available using the major Web browsers including Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari. If a non-supported browser is used, many OWA options and capabilities will not be available as a lighter version will be used. The lighter version provides fewer features.

Procedure

  1. Logging On and Off of Outlook Web App


    1. Open a Web browser, and go to https://uwmail.uwyo.edu/.
       
    2. On the UW Web Email page, click on Log into Office 365 Email.

      • Login with your UWYO domain username and password when prompted.

    3. Outlook Web App will open to your Inbox automatically.
       
    4. To log off of Outlook Web App, click on the person icon (or your picture) in the upper right-hand corner, and choose Sign out.

     
  2. Checking for New Email Messages


    1. When first opening OWA, the view will default to your Inbox and any new messages you have.
    2. If you have navigated away from your email, click on the App menu and choose Mail.
       
  3. Creating a New Email Message


    1. Click New (upper left).

      NOTE: If a new message window does not open, you may need to turn off your pop-up blocker on your Web browser.
       
    2. In the new message window, in the To box, enter the email address of the person you are sending to, enter multiple email addresses with each address followed by a semicolon, or if sending the email to UW students, staff, or faculty, click the To button to locate the person's email address in the UW Global Address List (GAL).
       
    3. In the message window, in the Subject box, enter the subject of the email.
       
    4. In the main area of the message window, enter the email message that you would like to send.
       
    5. Once you're ready to send the email, click Send in the toolbar.

  4. Deleting Email Messages


    1. Select the email you would like to delete, and click the trash can to the right of the message. If the message is open, click on the Delete icon Delete icon in the toolbar at the top of the message.
       
    2. The deleted email will appear in your Deleted Items folder.
       
    3. To empty the Deleted Items folder, right-click on the Deleted Items folder in the Navigation Pane and select Empty Folder.
       
    4. When prompted whether you're sure you want to delete all items in the Deleted Items folder, click OK.

     
  5. Recovering Deleted Items


    NOTE: Items in the Deleted Items folder will remain in the mailbox until the user empties the folder.

    1. Right-click on the Deleted Items folder in the Navigation Pane, and then click Recover Deleted Items.
       
    2. Select the email(s) that you would like to recover, and click on Recover in the lower right corner of the window.
       
    3. Click on OK. Items you select to recover will be restored to their original folders.
       
    4. When all desired emails have been recovered, close the Recover Deleted Items window.

     
  6. Accessing Outlook Web App Help


    NOTE: It is recommended that you read or browse through the Help contents to become familiar with the features and usage of Outlook Web App.

    1. From any window in Outlook Web App, click the Help icon Help icon in the toolbar and select Help.
       
    2. Click on the topic you would like to review.
