Install Adobe Illustrator CS3 for Mac from the UW Network

NOTE: Functional knowledge and use of this application is the responsibility of the user.

Introduction

The University of Wyoming is a program member of Adobe’s Open Options Contractual Licensing Program (CLP). As a member, UW is able to secure volume pricing on various Adobe products. This significantly reduces the costs incurred by UW departments and colleges. Further information on this program, product descriptions and pricing, the eligibility requirements, and the necessary steps for attaining a license to a specific Adobe product can be found on the UW Adobe CLP License Web page (www.uwyo.edu/InfoTech/Services/Sales/Software/adobe/default.htm).

For ease of installation of some Adobe applications, Information Technology (IT) provides network installation points. These network locations are restricted to UWYO domain accounts. Adobe applications are fee-based, so access to the network location will not be granted until a departmental IDR is received by IT.

Minimum System Requirements for Adobe Illustrator CS3 for Mac

• PowerPC G4 or G5 or multicore Intel processor
• Mac OS X v.10.4.8
• 512MB of RAM (1GB recommended)
• 2.5GB of available hard-disk space (additional free space required during installation)
• 1,024x768 monitor resolution with 16-bit video card
• QuickTime 7 software required for multimedia features
• Internet or phone connection required for product activation
• Broadband Internet connection required for Adobe Stock Photos and other services

Procedure

1. Accessing the Network Installation Point for Adobe Illustrator CS3 for Mac

   1. Select the Go menu, and click Connect to Server...

   2. In the Connect to Server... window, in the Server Address: box, type smb://uwapps.uwyo.edu/adobeillustratorcs3mac$, and click Connect.
      
      NOTE: Make sure that you have typed the correct slashes (i.e. / and not \).

   3. In the SMB/CIFS File System Authentication window, in the Workgroup or Domain field, type UWYO; in the Name field, enter your username; in the Password field, enter your UWYO domain password, and click OK.

   4. Double-click the ILLSTRCS3_ESD1_WWE_MAC.dmg file in the ADOBEILLUSTRATORCS3MAC$ window to mount the Illustrator image to your Desktop.

2. Installing Adobe Illustrator CS3 for Mac

   1. In the resulting Adobe Illustrator CS3 window, double-click Adobe Illustrator CS3.

   2. In the Adobe Illustrator CS3 window, double-click Setup.

   3. In the Authenticate window, in the Name box, enter your local computer administrator username, in the Password box, enter the local administrator password, and click OK.
       
   4. In the License Agreement window, read the Agreement, and click Accept.

   5. In the Options window, select your desired language (English by default), and click Next.
       
   6. In the Installation Location window, select your desired install location (usually your startup hard drive), and click Next.

   7. In the Summary window, click Install.
       
   8. Once installation has completed, click Finish.
       
   9. Locate the mounted Adobe Illustrator CS3 icon on your Desktop, and drag it to the trash to un-mount it.   
       
   10. Locate ADOBEILLUSTRATORCS3MAC$ on your Desktop, and drag it to the trash to un-mount it.
         

3. Using Adobe Illustrator CS3 for Mac

   1. The first time you launch Adobe Illustrator CS3, you will be presented with a Software Setup window. Select I have a serial number for this product, and enter the serial number you were provided when you purchased Adobe Illustrator CS3 for Mac.

   2. In the Register Your Software window, you can register your software or select to register at a later date.
