Install Trend Micro Internet Security
NOTE: Functional knowledge and use of this application is the responsibility of the user.
Introduction
Information Technology (IT) purchases yearly licenses for Trend Micro Internet Security, a complete Internet security solution product, for University of Wyoming (UW) faculty, staff, and student use. This software is provided free of charge for use on all personally owned computers. The Internet Security serial number will be provided through a secure UW Web site and must be updated annually to stay current.
NOTE: UW IT does not provide support for Trend Micro Internet Security; support is provided directly by Trend Micro.

- Incoming and outgoing mail scan (turned on by default)

- Full support for Microsoft Windows 7.
- A new security feature can automatically prevent suspicious software on USB drives from opening.
- This version can share threat information with the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network, which automatically correlates information about threats found on millions of computers to help protect you more effectively.
- Can now block attempts to open potentially unsafe websites based on suspicious domain names.

Incompatible Software

Installation Considerations
- Before installing the latest version of Trend Micro Internet Security, please remove any other software protecting your computer against viruses or spyware, or else those programs will be removed during the installation of Trend Micro Internet Security.
- Trend Micro Internet Security 2010 supports upgrades from Trend Micro Internet Security 2009 or 2008.
Post-Installation Configuration
To ensure that Trend Micro Internet Security provides you with the latest protection, complete the following tasks.
- Open the main console of Trend Micro Internet Security.
- Click the Update Now button, then click the Scan Now button.
Procedure
NOTE: First time users of Trend Micro Internet Security are advised to uninstall any current antivirus or firewall software before installing Internet Security. Current users of Trend Internet Security may run the installation to upgrade the software without uninstalling first.

Accessing the Trend Micro Internet Security Serial Number
- Students : Go to the Trend Micro Internet Security for UW Students Web page (https://www.uwyo.edu/tmiss/).
Faculty and staff: Go to the Trend Micro Internet Security for UW Employees Web page (https://www.uwyo.edu/tmise/).
- When prompted for a User name and Password, enter your UWYO domain username and password.
- On the Trend Micro Internet Security Web page, review the Usage Agreement, enter your last name, first name, and middle initial, and click the I Agree button.
- Write down the serial number, or copy and paste the number to a file on your computer. You will need this number when installing Internet Security.
NOTE: It will be necessary for you to access this page annually to retrieve the new serial number and manually enter this number into your software in order to continue to use Internet Security.

Installing and Using Trend Internet Security *
NOTE: you can update your currently installed Internet Security 2009 by using the serial number described in Procedure 1, above (new serial numbers were published on February 19, 2009).
- Go to the Trend Micro Internet Security Web page (www.trendmicro.com/download/product.asp?productid=123) to locate the Trend Micro Internet Security installation file (US version).
- See the Getting Started Guide and ReadMe documents for complete installation and usage instructions for Internet Security.
NOTE: You will need to remove any previous version of Trend Micro Internet Security before beginning this installation. Failure to do so will result in the program using the old license key which has expired. This will prevent you from obtaining updates to the program and limit program functionality.
- It is recommended that you add this Web page to your Favorites (or bookmark it), so you can easily return to it in the future to access these documents. This page also provides links to the Trend Micro Knowledge Base and FAQs for usage and support information.

Tips
- Over the last few years, there has been an increase in attacks on personal computers from the Internet. These attacks have come in the form of viruses, Trojan horses, worms, macros, vulnerabilities, exploits, and hoaxes. Here are some of the definitions:
Trojan horse: a program with hidden destructive functionality.
Virus: a computer program that replicates by attaching itself to another object.
Worm: a computer program that replicates independently by sending itself to other systems.
Hoax: a chain letter that usually spreads false virus warnings.
