UW Software for Home Licensing Program Frequently Asked Questions

Information Technology offers the Microsoft Software for Home program to UW faculty and staff (student employees are not eligible) as a part of UW's Microsoft Campus Agreement. The MSH program allows current faculty and staff to install and use Microsoft Office and Office for Mac for personal and business related work, and Windows Operating System Upgrades at home for campus-related work.

This offer is effective as long as Campus Agreement is in place, and the licensed individual is employed by the University. Campus Agreement normally is renewed each August. As long as Campus Agreement is renewed annually, users can continue to use the software. Users will be required to remove the software from their home machine immediately upon expiration of the licensed period or earlier if their employment with the University of Wyoming ends.

What software is available through UW's Microsoft Software for Home Licensing Program (MSH)?

See the Microsoft Software for Home Licensing Program page (www.uwyo.edu/InfoTech/Services/Sales/Software/WAH.htm) for a listing of applications available through the program.

Who is eligible for the Software for Home program?

See the Microsoft Software for Home Licensing Program page (www.uwyo.edu/InfoTech/Services/Sales/Software/WAH.htm) for complete information on eligibility requirements.

How do I place a Microsoft Software for Home order?

To place an order under the MSH program, please print, complete, and sign the MSH Acceptance Form (www.uwyo.edu/InfoTech/Services/Sales/Software/WAHform.htm). Send the signed agreement along with a personal check (sorry, no cash accepted)

The media will be delivered to you through campus mail, or you may pick up the CDs from the Front Desk in the lobby of the Information Technology Center when they are available.

Do I need to do anything to prepare to upgrade my Windows or Office applications?

It is strongly recommended that you make sure that your computer is virus-free before updating any software. If you do not already have an antivirus software installed to check for viruses, Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security is available to all UW faculty and staff members for use on their personally owned computers. For further information on PC-cillin and how to install it, see the PC-cillin Internet Security FAQ (www.uwyo.edu/askit/displaydoc.asp?askitdocid=572&parentid=1).

Can I install my Work at Home CDs on multiple computers?

No. If the product is installed on multiple computers, Microsoft will not allow the second installation to be activated.

Where can I get questions answered regarding my Software for Home software?

Personally owned home computers and Microsoft Software for Home software are not supported by Information Technology. However, there are various online and other resources available to you that may assist with your questions. A few suggestions follow:

  • Online Newsgroups
  • Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor (www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx)
  • Microsoft Online Support (http://support.microsoft.com)
  • Contact your computer vendor, as there may be specific issues with Windows and your computer that they can provide information for.
