UW faculty, staff, and students can install and use Trend Micro Internet Security through the University of Wyoming (UW) license agreement. This software is recommended for use on all personally owned computers.

NOTE: First time users of Trend Micro Internet Security are advised to uninstall any current antivirus or firewall software before installing Internet Security. Current users of Trend Micro Internet Security may run the installation to upgrade the software without uninstalling first.  

It is necessary to update Trend Micro Internet Security annually. Trend Micro releases a new version of Internet Security each year, and Information Technology will announce to campus when the new version and serial numbers are available. It is necessary for you to follow the above instructions at that time to retrieve the current serial number and install the newest version of Internet Security in order for it to continue to function.

Any time you receive notices via the Internet Security software stating that you need to update, follow the above instructions to retrieve the current serial number and install the newest version of Trend Micro Internet Security.

NOTE: Faculty, staff, and students who use dial-up modem access may choose to pick up a CD copy of the media in the Information Technology Center:
     Faculty & Staff: Front Desk in the lobby of the Information Technology Center (ITC), during normal business hours
     Students: Student Computer Lab, ITC lobby

If you have a University owned laptop or computer that you access remotely and/or use a wireless connection, you may consider installing Trend Micro Internet Security instead of using Trend Micro OfficeScan. You should first discuss the alternatives and support repercussions with your IT user consultant, as support for Internet Security is available only through Trend Micro technical support directly; whereas, advanced support for OfficeScan is available through IT.

Yes. The UW Trend Micro Internet Security license is per user, not per computer. You can install this software on each computer you use.

There are no known issues at this time.

No. PC-cillin can only be run on computers with Windows XP and above.

The components are antivirus, anti-spam, anti-spyware, personal firewall, and a check for Windows vulnerabilities.

The antivirus, spyware protection, and personal firewall components are turned on by default. For information on other components,  see the Getting Started Guide referenced in section 3 of How to Install Trend Micro Internet Security (www.uwyo.edu/askit/displaydoc.asp?askitdocid=206&parentid=1).

The file is 69.8 MB if downloaded from Trend's site. This can take close to 3 hours to complete over a 28.8 kbps dial-up connection. If you use a dial-up modem connection, you may want to pick up a CD copy of the media in the Ivinson Building instead of completing the download. Faculty and staff can pick up a CD from the IT Front Office in Ivinson 140 during normal business hours. Students can pick up a CD from the Student Computer Lab in the lobby of the Information Technology Center.

NOTE: CD installation instructions and serial numbers are provided as a part of the CD and may differ from those provided online for the general download instructions.

No, the UW VPN is not needed to install or keep Internet Security up-to-date. The Internet Security installation and pattern file updates are provided directly through Trend Micro's Web site and not through the UW network.

This error can occur if you have Lavasoft Adaware installed on your computer. To resolve this issue and allow Internet Security to update correctly, uninstall Lavasoft Adaware.
