A third level domain name or outside domain name used in conjunction with a Web site located on the UW central Web servers is $100 per year. These sites provide the same features and restrictions as regular UW Web sites. See the UW Web Site FAQ (www.uwyo.edu/askit/displaydoc.asp?askitdocid=600&parentid=1) for further information about these features and restrictions.  

NOTE: Site names that follow the existing UW Web site naming convention, www.uwyo.edu/sitename, are free!

To get a third level domain name setup (i.e. a Web site name in the format sitename.uwyo.edu), complete a UW Web site request form through the Central Web Site Management Requests site (www.uwyo.edu/centralsiterequests), and specify that the request is for a DNS hosted Web site in the Additional Comments section before submitting the request. To save time, you can also include the billing information in this section, which needs to include the following:  

• Budget Number
• Billing Coordinator's Name
• Billing Coordinator's Address
• Billing Coordinator's Phone
• Billing Coordinator's Email
• Department as listed for Billing Coordinator

To get a domain name that is outside of the UWYO domain name scheme (i.e. a Web site name that does not include ".uwyo.edu"),  

1. Register the name of your choice with a valid domain name registrar. There are many domain name registrars out there, and since they all charge for their service, we cannot recommend any one registrar over another. This charge is above and beyond the UW IT fee. Doing an Internet search will provide quite a few options.
    
2. Provide the domain name registrar that you choose with the UWYO DNS entries: roper.uwyo.edu (or 129.72.60.8 if they will not accept the name) and oldasuw.uwyo.edu (or 129.72.60.2 if they will not accept the name).
    
3. Once the name you have chosen has been registered with a domain name registrar, complete a UW Web site request form through the Central Web Site Management Requests site (www.uwyo.edu/centralsiterequests), and specify that the request is for a DNS hosted Web site in the Additional Comments section before submitting the request. To save time, you can also include the billing information in this section, which needs to include the following:

1. If you would like to market your department or group with a more publicly common Web name format like www.uwstudentlife.com, you can register this name with an outside domain name registrar but then take advantage of the convenience and familiarity of housing and authoring your site on the UW central Web servers.
    
2. If you would like to market your department or group with the Web name uwstudentlife.uwyo.edu, because it is still within the UWYO domain name scheme (includes ".uwyo.edu"), you can skip the steps of having to register it with an outside domain name registrar or incur an additional domain name registration fee. All of the processing of the request and billing is done through UW to allow you to take advantage of the convenience and familiarity of housing and authoring your site on the UW central Web servers.
    
3. As always, if you choose a site name that follows the existing UW Web site naming convention, such as www.uwyo.edu/uwstudentlife, it is free!
