Configure an Android Device to Work with UW’s Office 365 Email System

NOTE: these instructions are only for users on the Office 365 email system. Users still on the local Exchange system should see How to Connect to Your UW Email Account or ResNet with an Android-Based Cell Phone.

Introduction

This guide was created using the stock mail settings in Android OS 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Different versions of the Android OS and hardware may vary slightly in setup.

Note: Most versions of Android OS do not allow the modification of the existing account. It is recommended that you delete your current email account and then set up a new account to access Office 365.

Procedures

  1. Open the Settings menu.

  2. Tap Accounts & Sync (this may be shown as just Accounts).

  3. Tap ADD ACCOUNT. You may need to scroll to the bottom depending on the number of accounts currently setup on your phone

  4. Choose to add a Corporate account. On some devices you will need to choose Email and then Microsoft Exchange Activesync.

  5. Enter your UWyo email address followed by your password. Remember to use your full address with @uwyo.edu.

  6. Tap Next.

  7. When prompted, enter the information below:

IMPORTANT NOTE: This information will be the same across all devices, but could be used in various combinations with the different versions of Android. For instance, you might be asked to enter domain\username together, which would be either uwyo\username@uwyo.edu or uwyo.edu\username@uwyo.edu depending on your Android version.

Always use your full email address for your username. And always check the server settings as the Android might try and auto-configure them incorrectly.

    1. Email Address: username@uwyo.edu

    2. Server Address: outlook.office365.com

    3. Domain: uwyo or uwyo.edu (you might have to try both depending on the version of Android)

    4. Username: username@uwyo.edu (NOTE: you must use your full email address!)

    5. Password: your UWyo password

    6. Make sure the box for Use secure connection (SSL) is checked.
    7. In some cases you may need to check the box for Accept all SSL certificates, but we recommend trying it without that setting first.

  8. Click OK if you get a window asking you to allow outlook.office365.com to remotely control some security features of your device.

  9. Depending on your personal preferences, you can leave most selections in the Account options windows as their defaults. Tap Next.

  10. If prompted, you may give your account a name to easily recognize it. One easy option would be Uwyo email.

Your device is now connected to your Office 365 account and will allow you to pull email and calendar information from the cloud.
