Send an Email to Members of a Class in WyoWeb Course Studio

Introduction

Sending an email to a large number of class members from the WyoWeb Course Studio utility can cause an error when using Microsoft Internet Explorer. This is a know Microsoft issue.  When the total characters in all of the email addresses is greater than 2024, clicking on the Email Class link produces no results. This error occurs when using the Internet Explorer web browser. This error may rarely occur when using the Mozilla Firefox web browser.

Procedure

Options to try to correct the problem:

• Try using a different browser, like Mozilla Firefox (http://www.getfirefox.com)
   
• If using Firefox alone doesn’t work, in Firefox copy and paste the emails from the Class link.
  
  1. Click on the class in the Faculty Dashboard.
  2. Click the Classlist link next to the Rosters: heading
  3. At the very bottom of the page, right click on the Email Class link and select Copy Email Address.
  4. Paste the email addresses into a new Microsoft Outlook message.
  5. Manipulate the email address as necessary (i.e. delete the ?bcc=nallingt@uwyo.edu address)
      
• Download the class data and paste it into the message
  
  1. Click on the class in the Faculty Dashboard.
  2. Click the Classlist link next to the Rosters: heading.
  3. At the very bottom of the page, click the Download Class Data icon.
  4. Open the .csv file created, select the email addresses, and copy and paste them into a new Microsoft Outlook message.
      
• Use Course Studio
  
  1. Click on Course Sites in the My Courses Channel
  2. Click on the course to email.
  3. Click on the Email link in the Course Tools list in the left column.
  4. Select the students to be emailed, or click Select All.
  5. Click the Send Email icon.
