As software products come to the end of their product life cycle, vendors discontinue support for them. Without vendor support, Information Technology (IT) will be able to offer only limited assistance to users with these software products. Under certain circumstances, IT may not be able to offer any support for these products.
It is critical for computers running discontinued software to upgrade to a supported version as soon as possible in order to ensure continued security and stability of both the computer and UW's network infrastructure. After the vendor discontinuance date, patches for new security issues may not be created, and antivirus support may be limited.
The Microsoft Campus Agreement allows for the upgrade of the Microsoft Windows operating system software and Microsoft Office Professional software on University owned computers at no cost. IT highly recommends that departments upgrade all computers that are capable of running supported software and consider replacement of computers that are not capable of running this software.
This document provides steps that are to be completed through Trend OfficeScan as it is the supported antivirus software at UW, should be installed on all systems, and is consistent across all Microsoft Windows operating systems. If you do not have Trend OfficeScan installed, and you need assistance in determining your computer's resources, please contact your IT user consultant (www.uwyo.edu/InfoTech/services/helpdesk/uc/) or call the IT Help Desk at 766-4357, option 1.
