Connect to UWStudent and Classfiles Storage with a Mac

Introduction

For users running non-windows based computers, such as a Mac or Linux system, Information Technology recommends and fully supports connecting to the UWStudent storage via the UW VPN Client. The UW VPN client provides web browser access to UWStudent storage and allows users to download and upload files to their UWStudent storage. The UW VPN client can be accessed at: https://wyosecure.uwyo.edu.

Mac users who want to map a drive or have direct access to their UWStudent storage can follow the instructions below. Note: This method is not supported by Information Technology and should only be used if the recommended method is not sufficient for your current needs. Accessing your data in this fashion could result in corruption or loss of data should the servers you are connected to fail or are taken offline for maintenance.

Procedure

UW Student Storage:

1. In Finder, select Go and then Connect to Server.

2. In the Connect to Server window, type  smb://UWSLabStorage1/StorageJunctions$/username where username is your UWYO domain username.

   Note: cifs:// may be used instead of smb://
    
3. After selecting Connect, you will see a status window followed by Login prompt. Enter your UWYO credentials into the appropriate fields.

4. After successfully entering your credentials, you should see a window and desktop icon labeled with your username.

   Note: The icon may not appear on your desktop depending on your machine’s settings.

Classfiles Storage:

Follow the same procedure as for UWStudent Storage, but use the following address:
smb://UWSLabStorage1/classfiles$/
