Install ArcGIS Desktop 10.1 from the UW Network

Note: Functional knowledge and use of this application is the responsibility of the user.

Introduction

The University of Wyoming provides the ArcGIS Desktop 10.1 software package free of charge for installation on UW-owned computers for academic, administrative, and research use only. In order to install and run the software the computer must be connected to the UW Network. To install ArcGIS Desktop 10.1 from the UW network, request access through the IT Software Request Form. Once eligibility has been confirmed you will receive an email informing you that access has been granted.

Procedure

  1. Go to the Start button and in the search bar and type \\uwapps\arcgis_10.1$\ESRI.exe

  2. If you are running a previous version of ArcGIS, click on Run Utility under the Uninstall ArcGIS... section.

  3. Once the uninstall is complete, or if you're performing a fresh install, click on the Setup link next to ArcGIS for Desktop.

  4. If prompted to allow permissions by the User Account Control, click Yes.
     
  5. At the Welcome screen click Next.

  6. Review the License Agreement and then click on the I Accept the license agreement radio button and then click Next.

  7. If you wish to control install options, click Custom install, otherwise choose Complete.

  8. Accept default installation folders for ArcGIS and Python and click Next on both screens to move on to the Ready to Install Program window.

  9. If you want to participate in the Esri User Experience program select the check box and then click Nest to begin the install process.

  10. The install will process and may take a while to complete. When done you will receive a notice that the install was completed successfully. Click Finish.

  11. The ArcGIS Administrator Wizard will launch. At this screen select Advanced (ArcInfo) Concurrent Use and enter 27008@uwesrilicense.uwyo.edu as the License Manager for Concurrent Use Products, then click OK.

  12. The ArcGIS Administrator window will come up. Select the Availability folder to confirm licenses, then click OK.
