Install SAS 9.2 Phase 2 Maintenance Release 3 from the UW Network

Introduction

NOTE: Functional knowledge and use of this application is the responsibility of the user.

NOTE: Approximately a gigabyte of hard drive space is needed.

NOTE: This document applies to both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions. The 64 bit version should only be used on 64 bit Vista and Windows 7, and is not supported for 64 bit Windows XP.
How to determine whether a computer is running a 32-bit version or 64-bit version of the Windows operating system (information from Microsoft covering Windows Vista/7 and XP).
How can I determine if my computer/operating system is 64-bit? (information from a third party software site covering Windows Vista/7 and XP, Mac OS).

NOTE for XP users: Depending on your firewall settings, the install may trigger a block/unblock notice; choose unblock so that the install can proceed.

NOTE for Vista Windows 7 users: SAS is not supported for any of the home editions of Vista or Windows 7. See http://support.sas.com/resources/sysreq/hosts/pc/ for details on supported operating systems.

Note: Uninstall any previous version of SAS. Instructions for uninstalling SAS 9.2 Phase 2 Maintenance Release 0 are at How to Uninstall SAS 9.2 Phase 2 Maintenance Releases 0 and 3.

Procedure

  1. Click on Start, then Run, and enter

    \\uwapps\SAS9.2-TS2M3-PID-x86$\setup.exe for 32 bit Windows systems
    \\uwapps\SAS9.2-TS2M3-PID-x64$\setup.exe for 64 bit Windows systems

    and click OK.
     
  2. Installing SAS 9.2 Phase 2 Maintenance Release 3

    1. In the Choose Setup Language window, verify that English is selected, and click OK.
       
    2. In the Select Deployment Task window, verify that Install SAS Software is selected and click Next.

    3. Click on Next in the Specify SAS Home window.

    4. Scroll down on the Select Products to Install window and select SAS OnlineDoc for Windows (this is to address a known issue where SAS Help is not accessible from within the program). Click on Next.

    5. Click on Next in the Specify SAS Installation Data File window.

    6. Select Clear All in the Select Language Support window (which leaves English selected). Click on Next.

    7. The first part of installing files is selecting the Java Runtime Environment. Make sure Use the recommended Java Runtime Environment is checked and click on Next.

    8. The Deployment Summary allows you to review the software selected for installation. Click on Start.

    9. Results will vary from PC to PC. Click on Next and follow the instructions that are displayed. (A reboot may be required.)

    10. At this point files will install. This may take 15 to 30 minutes. When finished click on Next.

    11. Make sure Do Not Send is checked on the Select Support Option screen.

  3. Running SAS 9.2 Phase 2 Maintenance Release 3

    1. To run SAS, click on Start, click on Programs, then SAS, then SAS 9.2 (English). To run SAS Help, click on Start, click on Programs, then SAS, then Documentation, then SAS OnlineDoc 9.2.
       
    2. To create desktop shortcuts for these applications, follow the above paths, right click on them, select Send to from the menu and then Desktop (create shortcut).
