The University of Wyoming participated in a four-year longitudinal study sponsored by the Lumina Foundation and the Council for Aid to Education using the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) to assess student learning from 2005 to 2009. In 2005-06, UW recruited 276 freshmen to participate. This group of students was followed for a four-year period.

The University of Wyoming also participated in a cross-sectional study using the CLA during the 2011-2012 academic year. One hundred freshmen and 100 seniors were recruited to take the CLA.
