The University of Wyoming participated in a four-year longitudinal study sponsored by the Lumina Foundation and the Council for Aid to Education using the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) to assess student learning from 2005 to 2009. In 2005-06, UW recruited 276 freshmen to participate. This group of students were followed for a four-year period.

The University of Wyoming will participate in a cross-sectional study using the CLA during the 2011-2012 academic year. In fall 2011, incoming freshmen will be asked to participate in the study. In spring 2012, current seniors will be asked to participate. Approximately 100 freshmen and 100 seniors will be tested in each phase of the study
