Freshman Senate was established for the purpose of advocating for and benefiting the freshman class. The Freshman Senate of FY' 14 assessed the rising price of textbooks as one of the key factors of financial stress which affects academic success of students. It was determined through collaboration with the office of the Vice President of Student Affairs that a scholarship would support freshman students. The scholarship consists of five (5) $200 awards to be received by members of the freshman class, not members of the ASUW Freshman Senate, during the semester following application.
ASUW Freshman Senate is the official student government for first-year students at the University of Wyoming. As a freshman senator, you will work to make a difference in the student experience at the University of Wyoming through reviewing and recommending ASUW Student Senate legislative action and working with ASUW Senators and students-at-large on issues that affect campus life at the University of Wyoming.
ASUW Freshman Senate will also provide substantial and valuable networking opportunities. Through your work as a freshman senator, you will connect and build meaningful relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and elected officials from across the state of Wyoming. These connections will aid you in bettering your experiences as a student at the University of Wyoming.
Each year, twenty-one freshman senators are selected through a competitive application and selection process. Freshman Senate meets on Tuesdays at 5pm in the ASUW Senate Chambers in the Wyoming Union.
Several current members of the ASUW legislative, executive, and judicial branches got their start as a student leader at the University of Wyoming in Freshman Senate...and you can, too!
