ASUW Gallery

Where is the ASUW Gallery located? - Top
The ASUW Gallery is is located in the Wyoming Union on the campus of the University of Wyoming in Laramie.  The gallery is between the Center for Volunteer Services and the Union Admin. office in the lower level of the Union.

When is the ASUW Gallery opened? - Top
The gallery is opened Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm.  The gallery will be closed when the Wyoming Union is closed.

What do I need to submit applications to galleries? - Top
When you decide to submit your work to galleries you need to present your work and yourself in a professional manner. Most galleries will only look at your work if you take the time to professionally package it and include all necessary materials – so they have a strong sense of your work.

For the ASUW Gallery these rules still apply but in keeping with the educational mission of the gallery we will work with students to help them prepare for the world outside the academic setting. Contact the ASUW Gallery  or the UW Art Department if you need assistance putting together the application materials.

Who decides what shows are excepted for the gallery? - Top
The ASUW Gallery advisory board which is made up of students, art faculty, a student member of ASUW, the gallery cordinator, and staff of the campus activities center make the choices on what exhibits are excepted to the gallery.

What material does the gallery need from somebody applying for a exhibit? - Top

  • ASUW Gallery Application (PDF File)

Do you have enough work? - Top
In most cases this will depend on the size of the space you want to use. For the ASUW Gallery we would recommend 10 – 15 strong pieces, more or less depending on size. Always remember that group shows and installation are possible as well.

What does your mentor think? - Top
Seek the advice of a faculty member or professional artist that you trust and have them evaluate your work. This person can be invaluable when preparing your first public exhibition. Schedule time to show them your work and treat this as a rehearsal for your application and meeting with a perspective gallery.

What are your peers doing? - Top
Pay attention to where they are exhibiting, go to their shows and gauge how you feel about your development as an artist.
