Basile Lab

Analytical Chemistry and Mass Spectrometry

Basile group on top of the Medicine Bow peak, Summer 2013 (12,013 ft)

Our research is at the interface of Analytical Chemistry and Biology, Ecology and Molecular Biology. This highly interdisciplinary research focuses on the development of MS-based techniques for the analysis of small molecules (metabolites and lipids; metabolomics) and proteins (proteomics) in a wide range of biological and environmental samples, including microorganisms, bees, plants, animal tissue and soil.  In addition, we are developing MS-based molecular imaging techniques, including imaging MALDI-MS and liquid microjunction surface sampling-ESI-MS.  Combined, our aim is to answer fundamental and applied questions about the molecular structure and function of biological systems.
