Current Intern Highlights

Caitlin's Internship Experience

Caitlin Rams served as a trade and customs analyst intern for a high-tech company called Cymer. Cymer is a leading lithography producer in San Diego, California and creates products that are continuously helping to improve technology. Caitlin’s role at Cymer was to update records, improve business processes, conduct audits, and ensure compliancy. During her internship she learned the values of a company that leads to success, such as teamwork, interpersonal skills, decision-making, and time management. When asked if she would complete another internship, she said “yes, because the internship made a significant impact on her education.” Caitlin would highly recommend completing an internship to other students because it gives people “real-world” experience.

Cole's Internship Experience

Q: Where and when was your internship?
A: My internship was with Associated Student Technical Services (ASTEC) on the UW campus during the Fall 2015 semester. ASTEC's offices are located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. They specialize in providing audio/visual services to RSO's, UW faculty, and general public.
Q: What were your primary responsibilities?
A: I was responsible for handling marketing materials and creating a new image for the company. This included a range of things from graphic design, networking with other marketers on campus, and developing marketing plans. I also handled talent buying and promotion responsibilities for a concert program hosted by ASTEC.
Q: What did you gain most from your internship?
A: There were so many important things I gained from the internship. Getting to see what I had learned in my marketing classes implemented in the real world was huge, and I was able to get a moer in depth understanding of the concepts through first hand experience. I also had the benefit of getting to work with other marketers and make connections there and learn from their styles and techniques.
Q: Would you complete another internship, either with the same company or another company?
A: I would love to complete another internship for this company or another one. ASTEC was perfect for me as it was fitting for the career path I want to follow, but getting to market for a company in a different field could be very valuable and help me gain an even broader perspective of marketing.
Q: Do you feel that the information you learned during your internship has impacted and/or supplemented your education?
A: I definitely feel the information I learned in the internship has had a positive impact on my education. Now I have my own real world examples of concepts discussed in class. This allows me a more in depth understanding and appreciation for the lessons we go over.
Q: Would you recommend completing an internship to other students?
A: I would absolutely recommend completing an internship to other students. It's a great way to get actual experience in your field of study, while also getting class credit. It's a really great way to get a taste of what could be waiting for you after graduation, and I feel like it made me more prepared than if I would have just kept to traditional classes
