Survey Information

In participation with the national PPQ effort to disseminate the National Soybean Rust Pest Alert, the WY Pest Detection / CAPS Program and Cheyenne PPQ office assembled contact information, collated and mailed out nearly 400 Pest Alerts to various cooperators throughout the state. Even though the primary host crop (soybean) is not grown in Wyoming, beans are grown throughout the state and are alternate hosts. The education effort was targeted at people in the bean industry that may come across symptoms of the disease.

The mailing list of contact for the Pest Alert provided a list for potential crop disease alerts, allowing the time from completion to send-out to be less, should future events warrant the need. Each mailing included the Pest Alert, a cover letter explaining the reason for the alert, and contact information for questions or possible suspect finds.

In 2011, twenty-six fields in four counties were visually inspected for soybean rust.
