Student Expectations

What is expected of you?
• Communication!
• Honesty, integrity and active participation in your advising.
• Make, and keep, your appointment to meet with your advisor. And be on time.
• During advising, it is important that you arrive prepared. Bring questions, a plan, and a pen!
• Have your desired classes for the following semester selected and written down.
• Be honest with your advisor about your plans and your academic progress.
• It is YOUR decision. Graduate in 4 years? 5 years? Add a minor? Study abroad? Summer/ J-term classes?
• Advocate for yourself!
• Be familiar with University Catalog and class schedule, including deadlines.
• Be familiar with the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences student handbook, policies, and procedures.
• Know the academic calendar. DO NOT miss important dates.
• Be familiar with program requirements and USP requirements, and know your progress toward your degree.
• Give thoughtful consideration to your academic and career goals, and COMMUNICATE that with your Advisor.

What is required of you?
All students in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences are required to meet with your advisor at the following times throughout your education.
• At your orientation session. Incoming freshmen and transfer students will meet with an advisor and build your initial schedule.
• At least once a semester during Advising Week to have your advisor review your schedule for the coming semester, and receive your PERC number.
• Any time you have questions about your program, or your CEPS major/minor.

You can also come meet with us when.
• You have a question about a USP credit
• You have a question about transfer credit
• You want some coffee on a cold Friday morning
• You need some popcorn on a Tuesday.
• You have good news that you need to share with someone!

What can you expect of us?
• We will keep our appointments, and be on time.
• We will assist you with the registration process, including selecting courses.
• We can identify college, campus and local resources that are available to you.
• We will be honest with you.
• We will answer your questions, including program requirements, USP requirements, and University and College policies and procedures.
• If we don’t readily know the answer to your question, we will help you find it!
• We will continue to be available to you throughout your academic career at UW.
• Popcorn on Tuesdays and coffee on Fridays!
