What is it?

The CSIC (Coe Student Innovation Center) is a cutting-edge makerspace lab created to foster imaginative, collaborative, and innovative design projects. We’re open to all members of the UW community, from students, faculty, and staff to local K-12 educators and students. At present, the CSIC features four 3D printers, 3D scanning equipment, 3D modeling software, robotics kits, circuitry kits, electrical test equipment, Lego, and much more! To see a detailed equipment list, see below.

Our makerspace was designed to encourage and build upon project-based STEAM learning at all levels, from K-12 through college. We provide training and workshops on equipment usage, prototyping, and design to all interested members of the UW community, and welcome all tinkerers and creative thinkers! Ultimately, the CSIC seeks to serve as an innovative hub to connect UW students, faculty, and staff to the broader Laramie community.

Costs

Our goal at the CSIC is to ensure that this space is available free of charge for events, activities, or room use. We hope that you come in and study, create, or tinker whenever you’d like!

The only thing we charge for is materials. This helps us recoup cost of consumables like PLA and ABS filament, so we can keep providing you with great service and exciting 3D prints.

3D printing costs
We charge $1.50 for each hour on the 3D printers, with a minimum time of 30 minutes per machine. Please read the instructions below, or talk with our Makerspace Educators to see pricing examples.

Bring in a USB with your 3D files and we’ll help you print, or alternatively chat with one of our helpful staff members to help design and prototype an object.

Once we have the 3D file and before starting a print, one of our Makerspace Educators will confirm the time needed to 3D print your object, and provide you with a cost estimate. Once the object is printed, we’ll collect payment or fill out the necessary paperwork before handing off your print.

For students: you may pay in cash here at the CSIC, or charge it directly to your student account by filling out a brief form.

For faculty/staff: You may pay in cash here at the CSIC, or charge it directly to your faculty or staff account via invoice by providing us with the following information:
1.    Name of person purchasing the 3D print
2.    Name of 3D print or 3D file
3.    Cost of the 3D print
4.    Department
5.    Department Billing Coordinator
6.    Department Billing Coordinator email and phone number

For community members: you may pay in cash here at the CSIC for your printed objects.

Vinyl cutting costs
We charge $1 for each square foot of material used on the vinyl cutter. Before starting your project, one of our Makerspace Educators will confirm the time needed to produce your vinyl decal, and provide you with a cost estimate. Once the decal is printed, we’ll collect payment or fill out the necessary paperwork before handing off your decal.

For students: you may pay in cash here at the CSIC, or charge it directly to your student account by filling out a brief form.
