May 10, 2011 — Rawlins native, Brian Dean, will be concluding his ninth year at the
University of Wyoming in July with a doctor of philosophy in electrical
engineering. He is one of over 160 expectant graduates participating in
the College of Engineering and Applied Science commencements ceremony
on May 7th.
Brian was first introduced to engineering as a participant in the
Engineering Summer Program of 2001. In 2002, he began his bachelor
degree in electrical engineering and during the following four years he
served as the president of Chi Rho, vice president of projects and
historian for Tau Beta Pi, and as a member of both Phi Kappa Phi and the
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Brian finished his
bachelor's degree with a concurrent major in electrical engineering and
computer engineering and was named Student Engineer of the Year in 2006.
For his master's degree in electrical engineering, he served as a
research and teaching assistant under Dr. John W. Pierre working on a
graphical user interface for system identification of the western United
States power grid. He is currently working as a research assistant
under Dr. Cameron H. G. Wright focusing on light adaptation and
application of a house fly inspired vision sensor. During the course of
his graduate years, Brian has had the pleasure to teach multiple
undergraduate laboratories and serve as an instructor in both the High
School Summer Institute and the Engineering Summer Program. Upon
receiving his doctorate, Brian will be awarded a position as an
assistant professor in computer engineering at Clarkson University in
Potsdam, New York.
“The time here at UW have been some of the best and most formative years of my life,” says Dean.
