Tau Beta Pi Outstanding Junior - Yifan Zhang

June 10, 2011 — Yifan Zhang grew up in Dongying, China. He began his studies at the China University of Petroleum before transferring to the University of Wyoming and continuing his major in petroleum engineering. He spent his summers interning in the oil related areas. His first internship was at Shandong Basin, collecting information such as geology and lithology while working as part of the team of researchers. This past summer he worked as an intern at the Drilling Department of Shengli Oilfield in Shandong, China.

In addition to his academic schedule, Yifan is currently active in the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He plans to continue his education in pursuit of a master’s degree in engineering following graduation. He anticipates majoring in a master’s program that focuses on carbon dioxide sequestration, an area that has always captured his interest. Yifan spends his spare time skating, swimming, playing badminton, travelling, cooking, and tutoring Chinese and piano.
