Tau Beta Pi - Outstanding Sophomore - Erik Schmidt
June 8, 2012 — While growing up in Loveland, CO, Erik Schmidt showed an aptitude for mathematics and science as well as a keen interest in learning from a very early age. After graduating from Longmont Christian High School as valedictorian and a leader of the student body, Erik set out to continue his academic excellence while remaining a valuable member of the community. Through hard work and dedication, Erik has been able to maintain his exemplary academic record in his pursuit of a degree in chemical engineering while also being involved in various extracurricular activities around Laramie. In addition to his scholastic endeavors, Erik is an active member in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and his local church congregation.
After graduation, Erik plans on continuing his education and pursuing a master's degree in chemical engineering and a masters of business administration. Later in life, he hopes to work in research and development in an energy related field. In his free time, Erik is an avid self-taught guitar and piano player, and also spends time playing basketball (frequently with other members of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, an activity affectionately dubbed "Engineer-ball"), cooking, and attending the various concerts put on by the College of Fine Arts. Erik thanks his family and the many other people who helped him get to where he is in life.
