Green House Data Partners with the Department of Computer Science – Industrial Affiliates Program

February 5, 2014

The Department of Computer Science is pleased to welcome Green House Data as the most recent partner in its Industrial Affiliates program.

Green House Data is a leading provider of cloud hosting, managed services, and colocation headquartered in Cheyenne, Wyo. A VMware vCloud powered partner, Green House Data is powered 100% by renewable energy and is proud to be ranked in the EPA’s Green Power Program. In 2013, Green House Data was named to Talkin’ Cloud’s Top 100 Cloud Providers list. In August 2013, the company broke ground on a new, 35,000 square foot data center in Cheyenne, with the first phase set to open in early summer of 2014. All Green House Data locations are SSAE Type II and HIPAA compliant.

The company continues to play a major role in the rapid expansion of Wyoming’s technology economy, creating 40 jobs since 2007, many of these high-tech positions in Cheyenne.

“The direct interaction with students and faculty of the Computer Science Department was one of the primary reasons we have joined the Industrial Affiliates Program,” said Shawn Mills, president, Green House Data. “The program fosters the strengthening of the relationship between Green House Data and the University and speaks to the influence UW has on the technology industry in Wyoming.”

The Department of Computer Science’s Industrial Affiliates Program provides a link between industrial and business partners with potential employees and faculty members. Forming these constructive relationships between industry and the Department drastically reduces recruitment costs, while also developing a channel of communication between affiliate partners. Collectively, the mutual needs of business, industry, and academia are supported.

“We are very proud to be partnered with Green House,” said James Caldwell, head of the Computer Science Department.  “Green House Data is a Silicon Valley style success story right here in Wyoming. They’re able to offer exactly the kind of internships and jobs we hope to find for our students.  Ten years ago most of our graduates ended up going down to the Front Range for work.  More and more, with companies like Green House Data, they can pursue outstanding high-tech careers right here at home in Wyoming.”

The University of Wyoming’s Department of Computer Science is a nationally accredited program. Faculty of the department strive to create and maintain expertise in each of their selected areas of computer and computational sciences impacting developments in the field at national and international levels. Graduates of the Department are well prepared for careers in areas associated with software design, networks and the internet, computer programming, database design, artificial intelligence, management information systems, and robotics.
