STEM Saturday will bring students and their families to UW for hands-on activities.

Nearly 100 elementary through high school students have signed up to participate in “STEM Saturday,” which takes place Jan. 23 at the University of Wyoming.

Hosted by WYSTEM, students aged kindergarten to seniors in high school will attend the event. WYSTEM serves as an interface between K-14 students and teachers and higher education and industry to expand and enhance science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education in Wyoming.

The goal of “STEM Saturday” is to bring students and their families to UW to experience hands-on STEM activities, as well as to see what the university has to offer. Attendees will participate in three hands-on activities, enjoy a free dinner and STEM Resource Fair, and have the opportunity to attend the Wyoming Cowboys basketball game against Boise State at 8 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium. Each student participant will be given free admittance to the Cowboy basketball game, and families may purchase additional tickets at a discounted rate.

Activities for the day include a visit to the Shell 3D-Visualization Center and the newly renovated Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium, a “learn-and-take” activity at the Williams Conservatory and other hands-on sessions in the brand-new Enzi STEM building.

WYSTEM is hosting the event thanks to funding and support from the UW College of Engineering and Applied Science, the School of Energy Resources, the NASA Space Grant Consortium, the University of Wyoming and UW Athletics.
