The graduate program of the Department of Petroleum Engineering at the University of Wyoming was recognized for its excellence by a leading ranking publication last week.

U.S. News & World Report listed the College of Engineering and Applied Science’s petroleum engineering program in its 2016-17 ranking of the top graduate programs for petroleum engineering. UW finished tied for No. 9 with Texas Tech University, and beat out schools like the University of Kansas, Louisiana State University, the University of Houston and West Virginia University in the rankings. The complete rankings can be found here.

Each school was rated based on a survey of academics at peer institutions. There are 19 ABET-accredited petroleum engineering schools in the United States. UW is among the most affordable courses of study in the nation, according to recent data. Currently, there are 43 graduate students in UW petroleum engineering, with plans to add at least 10 more in fall 2016. Hertanto Adidharma is the department head and serves as an associate professor.

“We always strive to improve our graduate education by providing students with the best, state-of-the-art research experience,” Adidharma says. “The recognition of the quality of our graduate program will indeed motivate our faculty and graduate students alike to work even harder. We are proud to have excellent graduate students in the program and I am excited to have the opportunity to lead outstanding, hard-working faculty.”
