CEAS Graduate Jack Meena Passes Away

Notable engineer Jack Meena passed away at Davis Hospice Center on June 16 in Cheyenne, Wyo.

Meena, 47, graduated with a bachelor’s degree (1991) and master’s degree (1993) in civil engineering from the University of Wyoming. He also earned a second master’s from the University of Washington. He held the title of Professional Engineer for more than two decades with States West/Wenck Associates in Cheyenne, where he took pride in building several dams in the state of Wyoming, along with many other water projects. He was an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Wyoming’s Professional Engineers, Tau Beta Pi, as well as Boy Scouts of America Troop 101.

He was born to John and Edna (Furtado) Meena on Dec. 9, 1968 at FE Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne. He was known as a giving and caring person who affected many others with his compassion and selflessness. Survivors include his mother; Edna Meena, four brothers; Jay, Jeff, Joe, and Jaymes, and his sister; Laurie Meena, and their spouses and children. He was preceded in death by his father John Meena. All four of his brothers received engineering degrees from UW.

A vigil for Meena was hosted at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel on Tuesday, June 21. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the States West Scholarship Fund. Online tributes to the family can be made here.
