The University of Wyoming student chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) has earned a prestigious honor, announced recently by the national organization.

UW received the Gold Standard designation for 2016. The award comes after the national SPE office recognized the UW contingent for its exceptional programs in industry engagement, operations and planning, community involvement, professional development and innovation. In the previous academic year, Saman Aryana, an assistant professor in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, served as the faculty advisor for the chapter.

“This is an excellent achievement, the credit for which must go to the students and faculty advisor,” says Petroleum Engineering Department Head Hertanto Adidharma.

SPE is the largest individual-member organization serving managers, engineers, scientists and other professionals worldwide in the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry.

“The students were enthusiastic and active participants in many aspects of SPE, including industry engagement, Petrobowl and on-campus seminars,” Aryana says. “This is a well-deserved recognition and I hope UW’s student chapter of SPE will continue to excel."
